"That is for the good of each thing, which the universal nature brings to each. And it is for its good at the time when nature brings it."
— Marcus Aurelius
This line from Meditations urges deep trust in timing and the natural order. Marcus Aurelius, writing to himself as much as to us, reflects on the Stoic belief that everything that happens—when it happens—is for the greater good of the whole. Universal nature, in Stoic philosophy, is not random but ordered, wise, and purposeful.
If something comes your way—whether success or suffering—it arrives not by accident, but because it is fitting for you, and fitting now. You might not see the logic immediately, especially when you’re in pain or confusion, but the Stoic call is to accept reality without resistance, and find virtue within it.
In short, what comes is meant to come. And when it comes, is when it’s meant to come.
Entrepreneurship often feels like wrestling with chaos—deadlines missed, investors pulling out, users not showing up. In those moments, this quote reminds us: what’s happening is not against you, but for you. It might not be what you wanted. But it might be exactly what you needed—to learn patience, to rethink strategy, to harden your resilience.
When things are going well, it’s easy to believe the timing is perfect. But when a launch fails or a key hire quits, can you still believe the timing serves your growth?
This mindset doesn’t mean passive acceptance—it means active alignment. You still work, adapt, and push forward. But you do it with less panic, more trust.
Entrepreneurs thrive not just when they win, but when they make meaning of struggle.
